ANTIQUITY
Villanueva de la Reina was founded by the Romans in ancient time. It was named Noulas.
In 1862 the Queen Isabel II visited the village and since then the village is named Villanueva de la Reina (Villa = village, nueva = new, de la Reina = of the Queen).
GEOGRAPHY
Villanueva de la Reina is nearby the river Guadalquivir.
The village is situated at the National and Natural Park Sierra Andújar at the northwest of Jaén, which is the name of the capital city.
This Natural Park has got a great variety of animals, one of the most important is the lince ibérico.
The most important economy activity of this village is agriculture (mainly the olive trees and olive oil). And also there are some textile firms and carpentry and woodwork.

Only 2 two km away there is a beautiful recreational place called Batanejo by the riverside. This place is perfectly equipped with potable water, toilets, barbecues, tables and banks. Here the traditional pilgrimage of Santa Potenciana is celebrated.
